SAKE is good for health!?

As you know SAKE is a rice-based alcoholic beverage of Japanese origin.

I can't drink alcohol much, but I like drinking SAKE sometimes.

Yesterday I went to IZAKAYA(Japanese bar) and had SAKE!

I chose "NAMBU BIJIN" which is IWATE(my hometown!) product.

Ganbare Sendai

The food which I love the most in Sendai, no no, in the world, is GYUTAN!! Gyutan means Beef tongue, the tongue of a cow.

Gyutan1.jpg

After the earthquake, Gyutan restaurants opened earlier than other restaurants. They grill Gyutan by charcoal. So although gas stopped, they can grill.

When you eat Gyutan, don’t eat white rice. You have to have rice cooked with barley.
And eat with tail soup! Beef tail is very soft and mild, good to health. I love tail soup as much as Gyutan.

Gyutan2.jpg

I was encouraged by the taste of Gyutan many times when I was sad..
If you visit Sendai, let’s try Gyutan!

Other Sendai’s specialties..

Dorayaki, the Japanese sweet

Have you tried 'Dorayaki'?

It's a small hot cake shaped cake filled with sweet red bean paste.
Dorayaki is kind of traditional, being invented in 1914.

240px-Dorayaki_inside.jpg

A famous Japanese Manga and Animation character,
Doraemong likes Dorayaki so much.

dora.jpg
He is a robot actually ;)

The cake is very soft and the red bean paste filling is sweet!
It is nice to have Dorayaki with coffee, black tea or Japanese tea-

You can get Dorayaki from convinient stores to bakeries.
Could be a good souvenir as well.
Have a nice tea time with Dorayaki!

What is your comfort food?

There are varing definitions of comfort food, but I'd like to talk about nostalgic food,
the food brings us the memories.
Here, I would like to introduce you all the Japanese comfort food, Ochazuke.

ocya.jpg

Ochazuke, it's Japanese traditional home cooking.
Basically, it's rice, usually topped with salmon, pickled ume(umeboshi), salted pollack...
anything you like, or you have in your refrigerator ;) with seasoning.

Pouring Japanese tea on it, cooking ochazuke is done.

TaDa~!!!
images.jpg

You could use the instant ochazuke powder,
which is extremely simple to cook!
Just sprinkle it on rice and pour Japanese tea-
