If you are planning to visit Kyoto or Nara or Osaka or Kobe, you are enterig Kansai region,
or the Flour Land, like people call it with awe.

People there love their own food culture based on flour.


The picture above is Okonomiyaki, which is very famous and popular nation wide.
But Kansai region is a mecca.

The next one is Takoyaki, which is invented in the region and has become almost like
national food (at least Kansai people belive so)


Once in the region, immerse yourself in the flour food culutre.
The list of dishes goes like Okonomiyaki, Takoyaki, Ikayaki, Negiyaki, Akashiyaki,etc.

Many dishes might look actually similar to a novice like you but the more you try,
the more you will distnguish the difference.
As most of them are cheap, you can try as much as you want.


Now here is a very important thing.
You never bad-mouth about these dishes during your stay even if they taste funny to you.
People in and from Kansai region are very proud of those dishes, particularly, Okonomiyaki and Takoyaki.
They are actually like their soul food.
If you say something like "Okonomiyaki? Ugh, terrible. Takoyaki? Ugh, once is enough",
I don't think you can get out of the region in one piece.
It's like you are critcising wine to the French or pasta to the Italian.

So be careful there.
