Whenever I trave abroad, I always go to local markets.
Because I can learn lots of things about the country like the culture, the food, the fashon, people's behavior, the way of buisiness etc. directly.
Here is my recommendation of the market in Tokyo.
This is Ameyayokocyou or Ameyoko for short.
It is a shopping district that started just after the 2nd World War.
Since everything was in short suply in those days, in order to survive, many people had no choice
but to get necessities in black markets.
Ameyoko used to be one of them.
Because of that unique history, Ameyoko has its own characterics, which is reflected on the atmosphere of disorder and exoticness.
Lots of shops are lining on both sides of the street.
They are fish mongers, vegitable stores, clothing stores, watch stores etc.
Many food stands and restaurants are there as well.
Unlike other shopping ceters or complexes in Tokyo, you can offten negotiate over the price there.
Also when you go there in the evening, some of shops start dumping.
Although you can't expect anything fancy there in terms of food, what you have would probably be a good value.
Anyway, it is worth visitting and just wandering around without buying anything is a good fun at least!
