Hello! This is JMB from Sakura Hotel Ikebukuro.

What have you been up?!

We went to the baseball stadium to watch the game.

The baseball season is one of the hottest topic in the news headline.

Sakura Hotel would like to show our guests Japanese cultures.

Baseball is one of the face of Japanese culture.

If you go to the stadium, you feel and touch hearts of Japanese people from baseball funs.

Even you are not interested in sports or baseball, I am sure you enjoy that atomospere.

Please take in information through the five senses :)

This game, very similar to chess and popular in Japan

18871196_1193199780789622_352283362_n.jpg

Actually the rules are very simple :
like the chess, aim is to take he opponent's king.
If you can play the chess you can learn how to play faster, because the way to move the pieces is quite the same.
The only difficult point for beginners is to read the name of pieces and know what they are :

on Both sides you have 20 pieces :

shog.png

So the first line full of "歩兵" fuhyo, like the pawn in chess, you can move forward 1 case,
and take opponent pieces 1 space forward, cant move backward.

The second line with ony two pieces, but they are very important to attack strategy in Shogi so you'd better try not to lost them
you have the 飛車 Hisha, can move any spaces you want, on the fourth direction * foreward, backward, left and right, but cannot move in diagonals, its like the Rook in chess.
Then you have the 角行 Kakugyo can move any spaces you want, but only in diagonals. (can go diagonal foreward and backward as you want), like the Bishop in chess

Then the last line, you must pay attention to several pieces'moves :
from the left to the right :
香車:Kyosha, can go forward only and, move any spaces you want
Keima, move almost like the knight in chess, like a L
Ginsho can move one space diagonally or forward
金将;Kinsho, can move one space in any direction except back diagonals
Osho" on one side and "Gyokusho" on the other side, the king! can move and take ennemies one space in all directions, but you should better protect him tha use it for attack

So you are now able to try to play. SOme pieces can also transform into more powerful pieces but i will explain about this next time, so have fun

Irwan
